πŸ’œ Lent

Lent is a 40-day fast before Easter. It begins Ash Wednesday (no earlier than Febuary 3, no later than March 10) and ends at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. Counting the Sundays in Lent, the season lasts a total of 46 days.

The season commemorates the 40 days Jesus fasted and was tempted in the desert before beginning his public ministry.

The last week of Lent, called Holy Week, commemorates the final days before Jesus’s death. It begins with Palm Sunday, recalling Jesus’s arrival at Jerusalem. Holy Week also includes Maudy Thursday, dedicated to the Last Supper Jesus shared with the disciples, followed by Good Friday, recalling Jesus’s crucixion by Rome.

The following table lists each day’s morning and evening psalms as well as the first, second, and gospel readings.

In Year One, the second reading is traditionally meant for the morning and the gospel for evening. In Year Two, the gospel is for the morning and the second reading for evening.

When there is more than one first, second, or gospel reading, then those specified for morning or evening are marked by the 🌞 and πŸŒ› emoji, respectively. Alternative readings are marked by the πŸ”€ emoji.

On smaller screens, you can scroll both horizontally and vertically to read across rows and columns.
